The Sissipuukko M.95 and the Dianova Lapstone in the heart of NSMNP.

I was privileged to test the Sissipuukko M.95 with the composite case and the diamond sharpener Dianova Lapstone Classic when I did a two months long trip to the Philippines. I arrange extreme jungle expeditions into the Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park, which is the Philippines largest and most well-preserved rainforest.

As for a knife in the jungle, we recommend nothing else but carbon steel. This is because the blade must always be sharp, and carbon steel is easy to sharpen, especially with a good sharpener. And the rod must be continuous, so it can take all the beating. I used the knife for everything. It was used to prepare traps to catch forest rats, we had them for dinner later. We made strings and ropes.

We opened cans with it. I had it with me when I dived in jungle rivers and into the Pacific Ocean. We chopped up firewood with it. The Sissipuukko really had to work hard. The Jungle is a wonderful place, but it’s a harsh climate for materials. Therefore we chose composite cover, leather is not recommended in the extremely humid environment. The locking mechanism on the knife is quite phenomenal, it means that if you want you can wear it upside down without having to worry about dropping the knife. A friend of mine who also uses Sissipuukko think it's quite amazing that he can have the knife upside down on the shoulder straps on his backpack, and doesn’t have to fiddle after it when he needs it, the knife is always accessible and ready.
But we do not recommend hanging it in your backpack, because you can easily lose your backpack with all the jungle river crossings. Another thought-out thing is the diamond sharpener that sits on the composite cover, so you always have a sharpener with you.
The Dianova Lapstone Classic diamond sharpener was used daily. Was it not my Sissipuukko it was my Bolo, the Philippine machete, that I sharpened. I also sharpened my guides Bolos, because they were so impressed with the sharpness of my knife and machete. I don’t have so much experience of sharpening a knife with sharpener. But I got both my Sissipuukko and my bolo sharp every time. I think this is how it should be, it should not be complicated, just work. Plus, the diamond sharpener weighs almost nothing.

My experience tells me that Sissipuukko M.95 meets all the requirements you can ask for a knife for the jungle environment. The diamond sharpener Dianova Lapstone Classic is indispensable. At the beginning The Dianova Lapstone Classic was stuck in my backpack, but now it belongs to the things I always have on me, and never leaves me no matter what.
