KROKS is a sponsor project that by means of the adopt-crocodile-and-send -a-child-to-school campaign aims at making local people, especially the children, aware of their environment, and help them understand the importance of sustainable use and development in order to let them and next generations live in a healthy and profitable environment.

The municipality of San Mariano is deeply marked by poverty and to help improve circumstances it is important to deal with both the people and the environment.
In a place were man and nature dependent on one another indissoluble, one can not rise with out the other. By helping the children to go to school and adopting a baby crocodile for them this link is made. The Filippino child will be provided with education and will be the so called ‘parent’ of the baby crocodile which includes a visit to the rearing station where the crocodiles reside and eventually releasing their crocodile back into the wild.

The pilot of the sponsor project KROKS was conducted at a Dutch elementary school called “ het Talent” in Harderwijk. There are two options two gather money: (1) to have an once-only activity, e.g. one day with regard to sponsoring, (2) to have a long-term activity, e.g. gather plastic bottles for a couple of months to collect deposit.

At the Dutch elementary school a once-only activity was organised, a benefit-diner prepared by all the kids of the school for parents, other family and friends. These guests could enjoy a four course dinner prepared by their own kids for a small consideration and, besides, extra money could be given. At the dinner a presentation of the project content was given by a member of the KROKS project. Both parents and kids were very enthusiastic about the project which was clearly visible by the large amount of money that was collected.
The people were generous mainly due to the direct and clear feedback: correspondence (letters, film) between the Dutch and Filippino children about the rearing station trip and croc-release by the Filippino’s but also about both their lives as they are so different.
