The Philippine Jungle Expedition.
May 2-24 2012
We leave early in the morning in our Land
Rovers, leaving the noice of Manila. We are
heading for Ilagan, which is located in the
province of Isabela on the island of Luzon. A
journey of about 400km. In Ilagan we sleep at
a hotel. We will visit the CROC project that
work with wild specimens of the Philippine
crocodile, a freshwater crocodile. We will be
provisioning for the next jungle trekk.

On the biggest island,
Luzon, up north you have
the province of Isabela
We will be walking through tropical rain forest
The car takes us further out to the Loggers Point
from where we start our hike. We are heading for
the Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park (NSMNP),
where an Agtha guide, this is the name of the
indigenous population here in the province of
Isabela, guides us through the jungle.

Here in NSMNP nests the greatly
endangered Philippine Eagle, also
known as the monkey eating eagle,
if we are lucky we will see or hear it.
But it's easier to hear and see the
hornbill.
We walk towards Palanan where we
will be staying with private families.
This is the largest village in this part
of Isabela. We will visit Palanan
Forestal Dynamics Plot, a scientific
research station in the tropical
rainforest, plus other attractions.
We will then hike through the jungle
to a small village called Divilacan.

The Land Rovers will take us to NSMNP
Once in Divilacan we will stay with families. At
dusk we will be out watching the flying dogs flying
out to hunt. We will visit old mangrove swamps,
swim in coral reefs in crystal clear waters of the
Pacific.
We will be sleep one night out at Dicatian Lake,
where we will try to get a glimpse of the world's
most endangered crocodile, the Philippine
crocodile. After this we will start our third trekk.
We will go to Maconacon, together with our
Agthaguide, and then trekk over NSMNP again.
On the other side of the mountain range we will
be picked up. This night we will spend in Ilagan.
Early next morning we will head back to Manila.
On our way to Palanan
Trekking this adventure during the rainy season means a very high risk and takes longer.
